Day 3: Exploring Canberra
Today's adventure was anything but ordinary! We were supposed to have showers today, but despite the cloudy skies and threat of rain, it turned out to be a hot day. By 2 o'clock, I needed to escape the heat, so I found refuge at the local Central Social Club, enjoying a large cold beer. For context, this beer is almost twice the size of what you'd get in New Zealand and costs $9—a pretty good deal!
My morning began with a visit to the National Capital Exhibition where I had breakfast (photon attached). NCExhibition brilliantly showcases how Canberra was developed and what makes it the city it is today. The first thing I noticed upon arriving by bus from the airport was how clean Canberra is, with practically no rubbish along the roads—quite a stark contrast to Tauranga and its surroundings.
I had hoped to visit the Telstra Tower, which stands 812 meters above the surrounding area and offers spectacular views. However, despite still being listed in the "Explore Canberra Tourist Guide," it has been closed for the past three years. Such a shame, as the views would have been breathtaking!
Canberra is a cosmopolitan city brimming with eateries. The city centre is packed with food shops, cafes, and local cuisines, predominantly from Asian countries. One of the most convenient features is the free bus service, allowing people to move about freely with little traffic congestion.
Despite the minor hiccups, I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here and looking forward to more adventures.
