Day 9: It's Still Raining in Brisbane
Weather Update: Mostly rain with long periods into the afternoon and evening, high of 24°C. The forecast predicts rain all night.
Morning Challenges
I woke up sore this morning, unsure if it’s from overdoing it with all the walking, the hostel mattresses, or just the stress of travel. Even on holiday, the pressure to keep moving to the next destination can be stressful, especially when plans change last minute.
Train to Cairns
I had trouble booking my train to Cairns this morning. I hoped for a premium seat, but they were all sold out, so I’m in economy towards the rear of the train with an aisle seat. Not ideal, but sometimes beggars can’t be choosers. I was looking forward to a business seat with all the perks. Due to a change in the train timetable, I had to book another night here as the train now departs on Friday and will get me to Cairns by Saturday at 5 pm.
A Stop at The Garage
I stopped by a place called The Garage, a pub, and tried their house beer for $5 a schooner. I had been out earlier in the afternoon and shout out to the ladies from Bingo jacket worked well, although wet on the outside I was dry on the inside (Hoorah) see photo. Given that most beers here range from $12.50 to AUD 17.50 a pint, it was a good deal. I’ll be in for the night. Generally, pubs here have specials, but beer in Australia is expensive compared to NZ. If you’re coming to Australia, be prepared to bring extra cash.
