Day 5: Exploring Batumi's Markets
Weather Update: Sunny, 9°C
Elevation Above Sea Level: 3 Metres
Another Good Night's Sleep
Despite waking up later than usual, it felt good to sleep in until after 9 am. Over the past few months, my usual wake-up time has been between 5-7 am, so this was a welcome change. I spent the first hour updating my blog and looking for ways to improve its structure. Feel free to share your thoughts on the map or website if you have any feedback or ideas.
Navigating Social Media
I’m still catching up with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, and I haven’t mustered the confidence to start making YouTube videos yet. I hope to meet someone on my travels who can help me get started with these.
A Morning Bakery Visit
This morning, I stopped at a local bakery and tried another pastry. It was similar in shape to one I had before, but this one was filled with a type of meat that reminded me of spicy minced cat food. Yesterday, I tried Gurian Khachapuri, also known as Christmas Pie in other parts of Georgia. It’s a dough base with a layer of cheese and two boiled eggs inside, traditionally made by Gurians for Christmas.
Market Exploration: An Agricultural Surprise
I had high hopes for the markets today, expecting to find traditional goods. However, it turned out to be an agricultural market instead. While it was a nice walk, it was a bit of a letdown.
Afternoon in Town
After the market visit, I headed back into town around 3 pm. I decided to have fish and chips at the local pub, accompanied by a beer. It was a relaxing end to the day, spent in the comfort of the hostel.
