Hostel Review: Up Hostel Skadarska, Belgrade

First Impressions

Up Hostel Skadarska is conveniently located in the Bohemian district of Belgrade, making it easy to reach from the train station via taxi, minibus, bus, or on foot. I opted to walk the 3.7 km, which provided a great opportunity to experience the city firsthand. The hostel is situated along charming cobblestone streets lined with lively restaurants and bars, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the area.

Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the reception staff, who created an inviting and friendly atmosphere, Angela 1, Angela 2 and Joanna. A positive first impression at check-in often sets the tone for a stay, and here, the hospitality immediately stood out.

Rooms & Comfort

The hostel offers various room configurations, and I stayed in a six-bed mixed dorm with a street view. The room was spacious, and the beds were comfortable, each equipped with privacy curtains, a reading light, and a power socket—small details that enhance the guest experience. The overall colour scheme and decor contribute to a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, making it a comfortable space for travellers.

Facilities & Common Areas

The kitchen is well-equipped for guests to prepare meals, though during peak season, it may become crowded due to increased occupancy. The floor I stayed on had three showers, and two toilets, which should be sufficient during high-traffic periods.

One area that could be improved is the availability of designated workstations. The seating in common areas is low to the ground, making it less suitable for those needing a comfortable workspace. There is an ideal space for workstations, and I shared this suggestion with the staff before departing. Additionally, a small shelf by the bedside lights would be a practical addition for guests.

Overall Experience

Up Hostel Skadarska is a well-run and enjoyable place to stay in Belgrade. With a few minor adjustments, it could be even better. The excellent staff, comfortable rooms, and prime location make it a strong choice for travellers.
