Day 1: Unexpected Encounter

Weather Update: Warm evening with localized showers. High of 28°C.

Arrival and Serendipity

I managed to book a nice place for the night at Shi-ro-i Poshtel for $18.90. Leaving the train station, I asked a man for directions, and to my surprise, he got on his phone, found out how to get there, called a tuk-tuk, and paid for everything. I was truly blessed by this stranger's generosity on a damp evening. I gave him a huge hug, and we parted ways.

Exploring the Night

After settling in, I walked around the food stalls lining the street and ended up in a nearby bar. I booked a flight for 9:30 am the next morning, but when I arrived at the airport, I realized the flight was actually at 9:30 pm. Not wanting to wait that long, I managed to get on an earlier flight to Bangkok. Photo Attached

Navigating the City

Navigating the train system with help from a kind lady, I boarded three trains and eventually reached the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Photo attached. There, I was hassled by tuk-tuk drivers. The first offer was 200 baht, which I refused. The second offer was 150 baht, also declined. Finally, the third offer was 100 baht, which I accepted. The driver assured me he knew where to go, but I refused to pay him after taking me to two incorrect locations and then pointing vaguely to an area filled with houses, shops, and stalls. He waved his fist at me, to which I replied that I would call the police. I grabbed my bags, and he left in a huff.

Evening with a Friend

Later, I went out with Adam, a man from Holland. We had a disappointing Bhuna Lamb Curry. Photo Attached. what should have been chunks of lamb was mostly neck bones. Despite a discussion with the waiter, who just smiled and waved his hands, we gave up and paid.

Reflections
