🏠 Stadtaffe Chic Hostel Vie Review
Staying at Stadtaffe Chic Hostel Vie, Vienna, Austria — My Experience
🌍 Introduction
Stadtaffe Chic Hostel Vie makes an excellent base in Vienna. Located just 7 km from the Erdberg Bus Station and within easy reach of the main train station, it’s well-connected to public transport yet tucked in a relaxed local neighbourhood. The hostel’s location places many of Vienna’s historical landmarks within tram or walking distance, and the nearby river offers easy access to scenic cruises.
Electric bikes and scooters (Ryde, Voi, Lime, and Bolt) are readily available for exploring the city. The overall atmosphere combines authenticity, shared community spaces, and a laid-back vibe that caters to all types of travellers.
📍 Location & Getting There
The hostel sits about 7 km from the Erdberg Bus Station and the main train station — too far to walk comfortably with luggage.
🚉 From Erdberg Bus Terminal:
Walk roughly 150 metres to the large blue U sign on the main street. Catch the U3 underground line to Volkstheater (8 stops), then transfer to the U2 line for one stop to Rathaus. Exit right off the train, follow the signs to the tram stop, and ride 4–5 stops — the hostel is then about 200–300 metres away.
🕒 Travel Time: 25–35 minutes, depending on connection times.
💰 Ticket Cost: Around €1.50 for a single zone ride.
Senior Tip: Vienna’s streets are beautifully paved — sturdy walking shoes are your best friend!
👋 First Impressions
The welcome here sets a positive tone. Staff greet guests warmly, explain the layout and house rules (including quiet hours), and ensure smooth check-in. During my stay, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful — always ready with directions or local recommendations.
✅ 24-hour reception adds reassurance for late arrivals.
👍 My request for a bottom bunk was honoured — a thoughtful touch that’s not always guaranteed elsewhere.
🛌 Rooms
I stayed in a 6-bed dorm that was spacious and clean, with each room featuring its own toilet and shower. This setup is convenient, though at busy times it can create short queues.
Lockers were provided (bring your own padlock), and the bunks were sturdy and comfortable, though the top bunks can be a little noisy. Each bed included privacy curtains, a personal reading light, and a small wall pocket for belongings — thoughtful details that make a real difference.
However, there were limited power outlets, and a few small upgrades could improve comfort:
Small shelves beside each bunk for phones or medication
Air conditioning for warmer months
Individual power outlets per bed
Fresh linen is provided, and towels can be rented for €3.
🍳 Common Spaces & Facilities
The kitchen is well-equipped with utensils, a stove, a fridge, a microwave, and a toaster. It’s also a natural meeting point for conversation and shared meals. However, during busy hours, waiting for the stove or oven is common.
There’s no free coffee, though tea is complimentary. Coffee can be purchased for €2 via a vending machine — a minor downside, as most hostels offer free instant coffee.
Daily cleaning is excellent — the staff do a great job keeping the entire hostel tidy. Toilets and showers are generally clean, though the shower water tends to cut out periodically due to regulation controls.
There’s a separate lounge area for relaxing, with additional toilets available — reducing congestion when the hostel is full. While there’s no dedicated workspace for digital nomads, the kitchen provides an adequate spot to work (though outlets are limited).
During warmer months, the courtyard and garden area offer a pleasant space for outdoor chats and socialising.
🔧 Suggestions for improvement:
Add more power outlets in the kitchen, lounge, and courtyard
Introduce social activities such as communal dinners, games nights, or entertainment to build a stronger community atmosphere
📶 Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building, and the reception area provides maps and sightseeing information.
💰 Value for Money
In mid to late October, I paid €85 for 3 nights (€28.40 per night) and extended my stay for €50 for 2 nights (€25 per night) in a 6-bed dorm. Prices generally start around €20–25 per night but rise in summer.
Given Vienna’s popularity, Stadtaffe Chic Vie Hostel offers good value for a clean, friendly, and comfortable base to explore the city.
♿ Accessibility
The reception is located on the ground floor, with stairs leading to the upper levels. While not fully wheelchair accessible, the layout is manageable for most senior or mature travellers.
✅ Reception open 24 hours adds flexibility and peace of mind.
🌟 Final Thoughts
Stadtaffe Chic Vie Hostel is a well-run, welcoming, and sociable place to stay. It strikes a nice balance between comfort and community — ideal for travellers who value both privacy and connection.
From my experience, it’s difficult to find serious faults. Based on my stay and reviews across major platforms, this hostel’s 9/10 rating is well-deserved. With just a few tweaks — such as extra outlets, small shelves by beds, air conditioning, free instant coffee, and organised social events — it could easily reach near-perfect status.
