Friday, Day 18: Leaving Darwin

Weather Update: Sunny with cloudy intervals, high of 31°C.

Early Morning and Departure Prep

Last night was warm, but I managed to sleep until 7:15 am. This stop in Darwin was more of a layover, giving me just 24 hours to explore. By 9:30 am, I was ready to leave and embarked on a long walk to the bus station.

The Journey to the Airport

I caught the bus to Bunnings, the closest stop-off point. I could have taken another bus, but it runs every two or three hours, so I decided against it to avoid missing my flight. The bus driver told me to walk through Bunnings, saying it was about 1km to the airport. After asking a driver if I was on the right road, he seemed shocked I was planning to walk in the heat. Thankfully, he gave me a lift, as the actual distance turned out to be 3-4km, not 1km as the bus driver had suggested.

Smooth Hitchhiking Experience

I must say, hitchhiking in Australia has been a positive experience so far. That first day in Canberra, I prayed for the right people to come along, and it’s been a real blessing ever since. I arrived at the main terminal without any hassles, although the lack of Wi-Fi at the airport was a bit disappointing.

Unexpectedly Generous Kids Meal

Hungry, I ordered a kids' meal of a burger and fries. To my surprise, the child’s meal was not only bigger than an adult meal but also much cheaper. It was a satisfying way to end my brief stay in Darwin.

Reflections

Today was a blend of unexpected challenges and little blessings. For those following my journey, I hope these updates give you a true glimpse into the ups and downs of travel.
