Day 1: Traveling by Bus

Weather Update: Sunny with a high of 29°C.

Morning Departure

I started the day with an English-style breakfast and left around 11 am. I hopped into a tuk-tuk with a driver who assured me he knew the way. Unfortunately, we got lost. Lesson learned: always agree on the price beforehand. I felt overcharged at $8 US, considering the detour.

The Bus Ride

We departed on time, but the ride was quite an experience. Sitting up front, I witnessed reckless driving firsthand. Our driver frequently squeezed into gaps between oncoming traffic, making me concerned for our safety. I made a formal complaint, but we'll see if it leads to any action. It was clear the driver was tired—fidgety, dabbing his eyes with a tissue, and struggling to concentrate. At one point, I had to call out as we drifted into the opposite lane. His phone was constantly in use throughout our journey leading me to believe there are no rules with using a phone whilst driving, even people on motor bikes will drive holding a phone talking through a chaotic road system that works for some reason. Despite the reckless speeds, we arrived 32 minutes early.

Arrival Confusion

Once we arrived, I caught another tuk-tuk to my accommodation. We got a bit lost again, even though we were on the right street. It turns out we were parked right outside the building! After finally settling in, I had a beer to unwind, but sleep was elusive, and it felt like I was awake for most of the night.
